anon Pachelbel, also called Canon in D major or Canon and Gigue with three violins, basketball and basso continuo (Kanon und Gigue für 3 Violinen mit Generalbaß, Canon per 3 Violini e basso in Italian, Canon i Giga en Re Major per a tres violins i baix continu in Catalan, Canon huān tematumalli nāuhmetica in Nahuatl, Kanon i Gigue na troje skryzpiec i basso continuo in Poland) (PWC 37, T. 337, PC 338), are the famous works of Johann Pachelbel. Initially played with three violins and a basso continuo and combined with Gigue in the same vein. Like other works by Johann Pachelbel and composers before 1700, the Canon was forgotten for centuries until it was discovered in the 20th century. Decades after its publication in 1919, the song became very popular, and is now often played at weddings and included on classical music compilations, another notable work being Air on a G Major string by Johann Sebastian Bach.
