Prince Charles’ Australian security scare: the 1994 incident that made world headlines | Sunrise

On January 26, 1994, Prince Charles was set to deliver an Australia Day speech at Tumbalong Park at Darling Harbour in Sydney, when David Kang fired two blank shots from a starting pistol and rushed the stage. Kang was wrestled to the ground by police as the Prince casually watched on, before returning to the lectern to deliver his speech. Kang said in court that he was protesting the plight of Cambodian refugees in Australia. He was found guilty of threatening unlawful violence and sentenced to 500 hours of community service.
