Ukraine Downs 114 Drones, Accuses Russia Of “Blocking” Aircraft Deal Amid “Dying” Support For Kyiv

A barrage of Russian air strikes was reported across Ukraine on December 29, with targets including a shopping mall, a school and residential buildings. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia used a combination of cruise missiles and drones in the overnight assault. Explosions were reported in the capital Kyiv, in Lviv and Odesa in the west, as well as in Dnipro and Kharkiv in the east. Five people were killed in the Russian assault across Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia Governor Yurii Malashko said. Ukraine shot down 114 of the 158 drones and missiles fired by Russia, the Air Force reported. A Ukrainian defence industry official accused Russia of interfering with the negotiated sale of fighter jets from another country. A German politician warned that if Ukraine loses military support from the US, Europe would not be able to compensate for the potential loss.
