They are caught in a vicious cycle, stuck in one time within dark impenetrable void. This is emblematic of the struggle that survivors of domestic abuse / violence face every day. What will Today bring? She constantly tries to keep the light in this relationship shining, to keep the dark at bay. He seems to think that putting a roof over her head entitles him to behave however he sees fit. He cannot sense the dark emptiness created by his control which follows him around and traps them without the means to move forward. He is as much a victim of his own behaviour as is she, but it’s her that suffers at his hand.
