‘It was terrifying. I had to draw to distract myself.’
Ekaterina Yakovleva created portraits of soldiers and war correspondents during the business trip of the ‘: Time of Our Heroes’ festival in Donbass.
The artist’s ‘Donbass Coal’ exhibition has opened at the Russian State Library for Arts and will be on display until November 15. The library staff is supporting the liberated territories of Donbass by collecting humanitarian aid for refugees and restoring damaged reading halls.
All artworks are made with coal purchased from a Donetsk store for artists. The story behind these drawings is featured in the film ‘Pep Squad’ by Ekaterina Yakovleva and Oleg Nekishev.
