The Red Turtle, a new animation co-produced by Studio Ghibli, tells the story of a man washed up on a deserted island, populated only by turtles and crabs. His attempts to escape are thwarted by a giant red turtle, who he gradually befriends. Ahead of the film’s London film festival screening its director describes why animating - while often producing joyful results - can be a frustrating and lonely business.
