The Lviv Pogrom (1941) - How Jews Were Massacred by Nazis and Ukrainians

Did you know some Ukrainians helped the nazis with exterminating the Jews? The Second World War in Ukraine began on the 22nd of June 1941 when the nazis launched Operation Barbarossa. It was the name for the full scale German invasion of the Soviet Union. Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union. As soon as the nazi invasion of Ukraine began the Soviet secret service (NKVD) massacred tens of thousands of political prisoners that were locked up in the western regions. The regions were annexed by the Soviet Union after the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939. When the Germans invaded Ukraine Jews were slaughtered by the SS Einsatzgruppen. The Holocaust by Bullets had begun. The Babi Yar Massacre near Kiev was just one example of the Holocaust in Ukraine. However, the nazis were assisted by Ukrainian collaborators. Ukrainian collaboration with Nazi Germany and antisemitism in Ukraine was a result of Stalins terror policy and the widespread belief Jews were communists (Jewish Bolshevism). The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) led by Stepan Bandera. Later the Lwów Ghetto (Lemberg Ghetto) was set up. Over the course of WW II in Ukraine many Jews would be exterminated. The Lviv Pogrom was just the beginning of this...
