William M. “Hank“ Mizell (Asheville, 9 november 1923 – Murfreesboro, 23 december 1992) was an American singer and songwriter. He is best known for his song Jungle Rock (1958). During World War II he enlisted in the US Navy. After his military service, Hank Mizell started his musical career. In the 1950s he was in a country band. Mizell recorded the single ’Jungle Rock’ in 1958, but it didn’t sell. He then left the music business and became a pastor for the Church of Christ. He did continue to make a few, otherwise unsuccessful, singles. In 1971 his song Jungle Rock was re-released in a Dutch compilation album, Rock ’n’ Roll. As a result, Mizell stormed the Dutch Top 40 in 1976 and was in first place for one week on June 26. It also reached no. 2 in the UK charts.
