Aria in G major | Petrus Paepen (1662-1717) | By Rien

Today I stumbled by accident over this beautiful little piece. I played it both loud en soft. With trumpets and full organ and adter that “douce” with flutes. At the end I decided to make a recording with Nitra, using the Copula maior 8’ and the Nasard 3’ for the solo voice, and the Portun 8’ together with the Spitzflüte 4 as accompaniment. The piece is only a minute long, so I decided to do a reprise. After trying several other combinations for the reprise, I decided to stick with the first combination. It took me several takes before I was satisfied. I wrestled with a (for me) decent blend in speed, detached playing style without being staccato en a fitting “feel”. I wanted to record a light and enthusiast piece for today without being “happy clappy.” There is a lot going in the world and for some, in their personal lives. We have to search for a some lightness and some light, even in difficult times. I hope this little gem helps. Let me know! And… we may talk about a forgotten compo
