The King’s Singers: Hark all ye lovely saints (Thomas Weelkes)

These sing along videos are made thanks to generous donations to The King’s Singers Global Foundation, which aims to give access to great choral music in innovative and inclusive ways such as this. If you enjoyed this video you can help us make more: In the first of our 2023 Sing Along videos, we’re sharing Thomas Weelkes’ madrigal ’Hark all ye lovely saints’. This year marks 400 years since Weelkes’s death, and we’re honouring him by celebrating some of his madrigals (non-religious choral music). This madrigal is a kind of fusion of the sacred and secular, referencing both ’saints above’ in the opening line, but also the greek and roman mythology common in madrigals - as well as some suggestive double-meanings later in the piece.
