Band: KINO Year: 2012 The full information about the song is below the video On June 21, 2012, Viktor Tsoi would have turned 50. Shortly before that, his ex-girlfriend Natasha found among her stuff an old demo-tape with an unknown song that he recorded sometime in the late ’80s. She thought it was a sign, contacted the remaining band members, and handed it over to them. Together, they decided to re-record the song in a studio as a birthday gift to their late friend. Despite the awful quality of the recording they all had to work with, everything worked out well, and the song was born again. It was the first time since the fall of 1990 that the guys gathered as KINO. “Ataman,“ which means “chief“ in Turkic, became the first track by the band in 22 years and the last for drummer Guryanov, who passed away in July 2013. Bassist Tikhomirov, who has long changed his career to be a sound engineer, later said that it was not so easy to play bass again after such a long layoff. This meeting led to a friendship between the guitarist, Kasparyan, and Tsoi’s son, Sasha. The two of them soon started working on a few new projects, culminating in the band’s final reunion in 2020.
