How to Make an End-Grain Brick Cutting Board

No drum sander? No problem. I had been wanting to make end-grain cutting boards for years, and really wanted to try a brick pattern. I kept waiting until I had a drum sander. Well, I was tired of waiting, so went with a router sled and super happy with the results. Plenty of debate on if you can send an end-grain board through the planer. While there are those who find ways (sacrificial boards, use the shellix style cutter head, light passes) to do end-grain through a planer, there are an equal number of horror stories with destroyed planers and injuries to yourself. Wasn’t worth the risk for me. However you choose to flatten, just be smart and safe. This was a really fun build, and we use this board each week. Sure is a show stopper. More information on steps of the build, as well as loads more content can be found over on instagram.
