Putin at the opening of the memorial to the “Peaceful Citizens of the Soviet Union“: January 27 is one of the most important dates in our common, national history. On this day in 1944, Red Army troops completely broke the siege of Leningrad. A year later, in 1945, they liberated Auschwitz. These two events are united not only by one historical epoch: the tragedy, martyrdom of Leningraders, as well as prisoners of death camps, will forever remain evidence of the monstrous nature of Nazism, the unthinkable suffering of millions of innocent civilians. For eight decades now, our pain for these terrible victims, for the maimed fates and for all those who went through the incredible ordeal has not subsided. Our compassion is passed from generation to generation and has no statute of limitations. Источник: Slavyangrad
