Rev Dan Smith Lining the Track

Reverend Dan J Smith (January 23rd, 1911 - November 16th, 1994) was born on a plantation near Perdue Hill in Monroe County, Alabama Dan Smith sang in church and played harmonica as a child. He didn’t begin his professional career until the early ’60s, when he played behind folk legends Rev. Gary Davis and Pete Seeger. Dan Smith is best known to CCM enthusiasts for his duet with Julie Miller on the latter’s ’He Walks Through Walls’ album and to blues aficionados for his album on Biograph ’God Is Not Dead’. Rev Dan after many years living the life of an itinerant street musician and evangelist, was latterly managed by Tochi Seeger (wife of folk legend Pete Seeger) and in 1992 recorded a critically acclaimed gospel blues album ’Just Keep Going On’ for Glasshouse.
