Dimmu Bongir (Norway) — Hvis pipen tar oss — 2023 full length

The debut of this Norwegian duo. Obviously with such a name it is no wonder for it to be, at least in the surface, a Dimmu Borgir worship act, comprising the “For all tid” or “Stormblast’’ elements,as we are offered a symphonic solution of black metal with a clean production and sparkling harmonious synth leaden melodies. However, if we look at the aesthetics and lyrics we have more of a parody of marijuana induced death worshipping and other hilarious blasphemous content. Despite this light-hearted approach to black metal and far from my comfort zone, as I often stay away from symphonic black metal, this is undoubtedly a fun and irreverent take on symphonic black metal. Its strong musicianship, fierce vocals, and hilarious lyrics create a unique and entertaining listening experience. While not for everyone, it’s a breath of fresh air for those who appreciate black metal with a healthy dose of humour.
