Full title reads: “HIS MAJESTY’S NAVY - Launch of . Ark Royal.“ Birkenhead, Merseyside. Lady Maude Hoare, Wife of Sir Samuel Hoare, First Lord of the Admiralty, arrives to Birkenhead shipyard to launch new aircraft carrier, Ark Royal. Huge crowds are seen cheering. Lady Hoare names the ship Ark Royal (natural sound) and proceeds to break a champagne bottle against it. She attempts five times before she breaks it. The aircraft carrier plunges into water.
