James Warren Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime 2020

Here’s my new version of ’Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime’ to celebrate 40 years since its original release. My friend Matt Owens from Noah And The Whale suggested recording a stripped-down, contemporary version of the song - essentially me singing and strumming the chords on an acoustic guitar - minus all the big synthesisers of the original Korgis track. OK, we’ve added some drums and real strings in the latter part of this 2020 version, but I think overall we’ve achieved a very organic-sounding, uncluttered new rendition. And we’ve restored the original 2nd verse of lyrics (’Everyday, so confused inside..’ etc.) that we omitted from the 1979 recording. Track produced by Matt Owens at Shabbey Road Studios Caerphilly and Airtight Studios Manchester. Video shot by Andrew Wildey of Zeyusmedia at Tivoli Cinema, Bath. The video pays homage to the 2007 science fiction film ’Sunshine’, directed by Danny Boyle. It uses NASA imagery of the sun.
