Tiny actuators operating as artificial muscles can lift up to 1000 times their own weight – enabling the development of super-strong, realistic artificial hands.
Corrado De Pascali and colleagues at the Italian Institute of Technology developed 3D printed artificial muscles created from actuators, which converts energy into force. “We started from the traditional artificial muscle, and developed a new class of artificial muscles made of a single monolithic component,” says De Pascali.
