The tune was written by Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones and was apparently very difficult to record because the band did the song live in the studio with very little overdubbing. John Paul Jones plays Hammond organ on the song behind Plant and Page for a seven-minute jam which critics called “the ultimate power blues”. Guitar World also dubbed the performance one of “The 100 Greatest Solos of All-Time”. The great guitarist Joe Satriani also called Page’s guitar playing for the tune, “the perfect example of taking blues structure but striking out on your own”.
