Ice Spice - Bikini Bottom (Live) | Vevo DSCVR Artists to Watch 2023

Ice Spice - Bikini Bottom - Live Performance | Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2023 Talk about coming on strong. One day we were living our lives without Ice Spice, and the next she was everywhere. And now we need her…bad. The Bronx rapper has brought fun and flash to the NYC drill game. For a 22-year-old who dropped her first rhymes just a year a half ago, she sure throws that swag around. But that’s the way it has to be: authority is central to a drill attitude. Maybe Ice developed it coming through a rough Catholic school run, where the kids “come out sneaky,” or maybe it’s her formative hood vibe, a place she calls “dirty.” Could be the dap she gets from heroes like Drake, who fell for her tracks, slipped into her DMs, and flew her to Toronto for some OVO fun. Whichever, her ascendance was quick, that’s for sure. In the spring of 2021, she and producer RiotUSA threw their “Bully” on TikTok and it stuck. Erica Banks’ Buss It challenge was a crucial door-opener, too. Then last fall Riot inverted Zedd’s “Clarity,” the rapper instantly saw a way to spit through it, and “No Clarity” let everyone know there was a new girl in town. Not bad for volleyball player and hair-style hobbyist who came up on Nicki but says that Sheff G’s “No Suburban” was her first drill inspiration (though she’s a Pop Smoke fan, too). Her first name is Isis, her Friendster handle was Spice. Her Black and Dominican parents support her efforts, including a yen to try her hand at a Latin vibe soon enough. When the sexy, serious and silly “Munch (Feelin’ U) defined the summer of 2022, we knew there was plenty of runway in front of her. “Making music makes me feel good,” she says. “As soon as I finish [a track], I play it all day. I love it.” That’s winner talk. Here comes Ice Spice.
