The Soul Is Greater Than The World - Ricky Bruch - Obsessive Quest To Become Greatest Discus Thrower

The Soul Is Greater Than The World is a documentary directed by Stefan Jarl. It is a captivating and emotional portrayal of Swedish discus champion Ricky Bruch. At age 38, Bruch makes a comeback effort to qualify for the 1984 Olympic Games. The film highlights Bruch’s obsessive behavior, in regards to his training and preparations. Facing difficulties with the Swedish Olympic Committee, in no small part due to his both outspoken and controversial behavior, Bruch is denied the right to compete in the Olympic Games. Despite being forbidden to compete in the Olympic Games, Bruch continues to train and compete. He ultimately throws his career-best meters (233 feet, 9 inches). Proving to the world, and more importantly to himself, that he is one of the greatest discus throwers of all time.
