Wedding Band (Metallica’s Kirk Hammett & Robert Trujillo) cover Black Sabbath, live in San Francisco

Performing as The Wedding Band, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett (guitar) and Robert Trujillo (bass)--as well as Ugly Kid Joe’s Whitfield Crane (vocals), Queens of the Stone Age’s Jon Theodore (drums), Death Angel’s Mark Osegueda (vocals), and Bad Wolves’ Doc Coyle (guitar)--play covers of the Black Sabbath songs “Fairies Wear Boots“ and “Symptom Of The Universe“ live in concert before a sold-out crowd at The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 17, 2021. Fairies Wear Boots originally appeared on British heavy metal band Black Sabbath’s second studio album Paranoid (1970). Symptom Of The Universe originally appeared on Black Sabbath’s sixth studio album Sabotage (1975). Rob Trujillo has his own Black Sabbath connection; he played bass in Ozzy Osbourne’s band for several years starting in the late 1990s. Osbourne was the lead singer of Black Sabbath. This show at The Fillmore as the Wedding Band was part of Metallica’s “San Francisco Takeover” this past weekend celebrating the band’s 40th anniversary. The all-star cover band played several 70’s and 80’s rock and funk songs, only wrapping up the show after 3am. The supergroup was formed in 2019 as a Metallica side project; they got their name from the fact that their first gig was a friend’s wedding in Hawaii. Joining them onstage for these Black Sabbath covers was Cesar Gueikian, the president of Gibson Guitars. He played Kirk Hammett’s own iconic 1959 “Greeny” Les Paul, with its famous reversed neck pickup configuration, while Hammett tried out a new Greeny Les Paul replica prototype. The guitar gets its name from the fact that it was once owned by Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac. It was used on early Fleetwood Mac songs like “Albatross,“ “Man Of The World,“ “The Green Manalishi“ and “Black Magic Woman.“ It was later owned by Northern Irish guitar wunderkind Gary Moore from the bands Skid Row and Thin Lizzy. According to Hammett, he was convinced by Jimmy Page to buy the Greeny guitar in 2014. He purportedly paid $2 million for it. =============== Fairies Wear Boots lyrics: Goin’ home late last night Suddenly, I got a fright Yeah, I looked through a window and surprised what I saw Fairy with boots are dancin’ with a dwarf, alright, now [Chorus] Yeah, fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me Yeah, I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies Yeah, fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes, alright, now [Guitar Solo] [Chorus] Yeah, fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me Yeah, I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies Yeah, fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes, alright, now [Outro] So, I went to the doctor, see what he could give me He said, “Son, son, you’ve gone too far ’Cause smokin’ and trippin’ is all that you do,“ yeah Written by Tony Iommi / Terence “Geezer’ Butler / Bill Ward / Ozzy Osbourne =============== The Wedding Band official bio: The Wedding Band is not your ordinary cover band.
