The Icicle Hitch is one of the better friction grip hitches for linear pull. It can be used to pull on rope or cable, though your hitch should be formed with a smaller diameter rope. This is an excellent knot for gripping onto cylindrical objects, even if the object is tapered and you are pulling towards the taper. An example of this would be a large wrecking bar.
