In 1988, Happy Mondays released a landmark single for them, ’Wrote For Luck’. Viewers of late night TV probably got the first viewing of the video on ’Transmission’ which went out in the early hours. It was a magnificent video that anyone seeing bands and clubbing at that time would have recognised, or associated with.
In 1989, a Vince Clarke remix turned as it was now called into an actual hit. The remix also remixed the original video, but the result was less effective and wasn’t a patch on the original. Around this time the standard promo which had featured an edit of the 12“ version of the single was supplanted by the ’Alternative’ video, filmed by the Bailey Brothers at around the same time, but which replaced the Ecstasy fuelled revellers with children. This has gone on to be the only version, along with the . which has seen commercial release and the original version was criminally omitted from the DVD, included with the 2007 ’Pills ’N’ Thrills And Bellyaches Collectors Edition’.
