Radical Acts: Alexandra Jacopetti Hart on Native Funk & Flash

Author and artist Alexandra Jacopetti Hart talks about how she and photographer Jerry Wainwright formed the idea for their seminal book on 1970s counterculture fashion Native Funk and Flash in a new video for the Radical Acts exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California. The new Radical Acts exhibit within the Gallery of California Art at the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA), opening July 18, 2014, features artwork made by beatniks, counterculturists, and activists from the 1950s through the 1970s. Featured artists include Bruce Conner, Jay DeFeo, Larry Keenan, Wally Hedrick, and Alexandra Jacopetti Hart, and selections from the Museum’s All of Us or None collection of political posters. Works include photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting, clothing, and jewelry, as well as an interactive media piece.
