Italy: Bologna hospital sees spike in young COVID patients as city becomes ’red zone’

The medical staff at Bologna’s main hospital warned on Wednesday that COVID infection cases are spiking, and featuring increasingly severe symptoms in younger patients, as the city prepares to enter a ’red zone’ lockdown. “The current numbers are similar to those of the first wave, but they are already higher than the second wave, and we haven’t reached the peak yet,“ said Daniela Di Luca, an ICU doctor at Sant’Orsola hospital. The hospital has converted an entire building and some departments to host COVID patients.
