Donizetti - La Fille du Regiment - Sutherland, Pavarotti, Malas / Bonynge Covent Garden , june 1967

This performance of the Fille was a very happy one ! Sutherland and Pavarotti in an opera full of happy tunes ! Sutherland sang this opera for the first time in Covent Garden in 1966. It was a great public succes, thats why it was repeated in 1967 . In both cases together with year after Decca recorded it commercially, a delightful recording. This live recording gives the theatre atmosphere, which is an extra ! The sound in the first Act is very was recorded from the Grand Tier. The end of the first act is the tape was not long enough !!!!! The sound weakens in Act 2, it gets a whiny tendency, possibly induced by weakening batteries. The voices come through very clearly throughout the entire recording. Sofar this is the only existing decent recording of the Covent Garden performances ! Enjoy !
