Dragon Ball Z | SSJ Transformation Remake (Mike Smith) | By Gladius

This piece of music has always been a long time favorite of mine. Seeing Goku turn Super Saiyan for the first time completely moved me in my soul; I’m glad I had the episode recorded on VHS so I could watch it over and over. The music in the English Dub (by Mike Smith from Faulconer Productions) just hit me different to the music in the Japanese dub. There was something so emotional- particularly around 0:35, where the choir starts to build; that just sings Goku’s hopelessness from the death of Krillin, juxtaposed with a hopefulness of a deeper place within him- in spite of everything Freeza has done and how unbeatable he seems, there’s still a chance. I redrew and animated this still from the episode; it’s one of my favorite images from this transformation. Enjoy!
