An out-of-body experience (OBE), is a phenomenon in which a person perceives themselves as being spatially separated from their physical bodies. During an OBE, one might experience a feeling of floating and looking down at their own body from a bird’s-eye perspective, or they may feel as though they’re existing in a different location altogether.
Out-of-body experiences are sometimes classified as a type of dissociative experience that occurs when individuals detach from an integrated sense of self and the physical world around them. They are frequently associated with altered states of consciousness, such as those induced by hypnosis, meditation, sensory deprivation, or NDEs.
In a spiritual context, out-of-body experiences are often viewed as evidence of a non-physical, spiritual dimension of human existence. Many cultures and spiritual traditions interpret OBEs as the temporary liberation or journey of the soul or consciousness from the physical body. These experiences are often described in terms of astral projection or spiritual travel, and they play a central role in various mystical, esoteric, and shamanic practices. However, it’s important to note that these interpretations often extend beyond the boundaries of empirical science and enter the realm of metaphysics or spirituality.
To Increase your chances of having an out-of-body experience, you should attempt to reduce stimulation to your other senses and reduce the likelihood of distractions as much as possible.
Sight: Turn off any lights within your visual perception, or wear an eye mask.
Hearing: Turn off anything nearby that emits a sound, or wear headphones.
Smell: Ensure there are no smells that could distract you or light your favorite incense or candle.
Breathing: Deep breath in, hold it, and release. Steady, controlled breathing until you find your rhythm.
Taste: Hydrate yourself with water. This will reduce any stimulation to your tastebuds through dilution.
Touch: Get comfortable. Whether that’s sitting in a comfortable position or lying down. The effects are amplified if you are fasting or have an empty stomach.
