LIVE: Fans gather in Budapest Fan Zone to watch Hungary vs Germany

Football fans are gathering in Budapest’s UEFA Fan Zone on Wednesday, June 23, in order to watch the Group F final round match between Hungary and Germany. The match has been surrounded by polemic following UEFA’s refusal to allow the stadium to be illuminated in rainbow colours in support of the LGBTQ community. The motion was put forward by the Munich city council in the wake of a law passed by the Hungarian Parliament banning the ’promotion’ of homosexuality and gender reassignment among young people up to the age of 18. Earlier in the week, UEFA launched an investigation into the rainbow armband worn at the tournament by German captain Manuel Neuer, later dropping the probe assessing it is being used for a ’good cause’. Football’s governing body is also currently investigating claims of discrimination at Budapest’s Puskas Arena during the two games it has hosted so far, including anti-LGBTQ banners and racial slurs against opponent players, including French star Kylian Mbappe. #Budapest #Hungary #GE
