Advancing with Watercolor: An Artists Interpretation “Rain Falls, Leaving the City”

This video was done after a week of plein air painting with watercolor in New York City. It is part of a series of videos featuring Central Park, Bryant Park, Times Square, and Dumbo park at the Brooklyn Bridge. The workshop lasted six days and each day was a new adventure . Today is the day after the workshop, everyone has gone home and I have a quiet day by myself. Rain has returned to New York City in the early morning, and a certain loneliness overtakes me. I still have some ideas remaining from the workshop and one of them is to paint a rainy day scene of the Brooklyn Bridge. So this painting was done with the idea of evoking a melancholy feeling - leaving the city on a rainy day. It’s an improvisation based on a photograph and a memory of walking to the Brooklyn Bridge the day before. In this painting I make a conscious departure from the bright sunny day we spent together to a heavy, wet day filled with memories and emptiness. My Materials List:
