Helping The Wine Harvest (1931)

“The kind of picture of Switzerland we mostly think about is this sort -“ Landscape shot of Swiss Alps. “There is another aspect, however, of that snow-capped home of the mountains - the fertile vineyards in the summer.“ C/U of a woman in peasant style dress eating a bunch of grapes. She smiles and nods at the camera. C/U of two women cutting bunches of grapes from the vine. M/S of women harvesting grapes. Man with a large basket on his back crouches down in front of the women and they pour grapes into the basket. A young boy is helping with the harvest. C/U of bunches being poured from the basket into crates. A wheel is turned and the grapes drop down inside a small press. L/S of a cart which has a cow to lead it. Large barrels of grapes are loaded onto the cart. M/S of the cart passing the camera. “A brief interruption“ comes in the form of lunch. The grape pickers sit around having a picnic lunch. “Then the already crushed grapes are taken to the big press and the juice pumped away.
