Only the Ocean Knows by Lachlan Skipworth - Bronwyn Kirkpatrick - shakuhachi 尺八

Only the Ocean Knows is a meditation on the murky depths of the ocean, setting the shakuhachi in a dialogue with the ensemble. It was inspired by the discovery of the HMAS Sydney off the northwest coast of Western Australia. The Sydney sank after a battle in World War II, during which all 645 crew members were lost. It took 66 years to discover the location of the wreck. (Lachlan Skipworth) This world premier performance was recorded live at the World Shakuhachi Festival in Sydney, 2008 and appears on my Shingetsu CD Shakuhachi: Bronwyn Kirkpatrick Bass clarinet: Catherine Todd Percussion: Sandy Sin, Selina Fung, Anna Zeltzer Harp: Clare McDonogh Cello: Elle Spicer
