Was the 1986 box office smash movie “Top Gun“ inspired by a corporate video? It seems possible. Although it’s a well known fact that the screenplay for the film was adapted from a magazine article written by journalist Ehud Yonay, many aspects of the film’s visuals seem similar to “Air Power at Sea“ — a 1982 promo film made by Grumman to promote their weapons systems. Those included the iconic F-14 Tomcat and the EA-6B Prowler aircraft, which were shown operating on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in the Mediterranean Sea. While “Top Gun“ starred Tom Cruise, Kelly Mcgillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt, “Air Power at Sea“ starred Grumman’s cutting edge aircraft, performing pulse-pounding maneuv
