Dancing Forth – the Scottish Show 2009 was the 55th consecutive show produced by RSCDS Edinburgh at Festival time.
Part 1 marks the 350th anniversary of the birth for our National Bard, Robert Burns, in Alloway and the dances, songs and music of Messrs Burns and Gow, not forgetting Marshall - three of the most talented gentlemen of their age have all been chosen to celebrate this.
Our story opens with the tune Niel Gow’s Wife, which was of course his Fiddle, followed by two tunes of Jon’s The Kick and The Bag of Spuds leading us into the dances The De’il amang the Tailors, The Silver Tassie and Linkumdoddie, the first having been published by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, and the other two by John Drewry. This brings us to the Cottage where Burns was Born a sonnet by J Keats sung by Darren.
Robert Burns was known to enjoy the odd glass or three and we are sure he would enjoy these next two dances. In fact, he enjoyed dancing so much that in 1779 he joined a Tarbolton danci
