There’s never enough Jimi Hendrix but there are lots of live improvisations which contain moments of genius and the ingredients for new songs. I had the idea of taking words from Jimi’s interviews and mixing them with some of his best playing to assemble new tracks. This one takes an early interview for BBC Saturday club when he talks about Chas Chandler persuading him to come to England and his aspiration to create a new type of music with “a little more feeling“ which he described a “a sort of freakish blues“. I love the part where he describes his recordings so far as “just a phase - a very small part of us“. All of the instruments are from live recordings by the original Experience. I’ve used some remixing techniques to tempo match different sections and increase the stereo ambience. Thanks also to all the photographers and artists who posted the visual images on Hendrix inspired Facebook groups.
