Cesaria Evora & Bonga - Sodade (Lisbon Coliseu), 8th May 2010

This is an excerpt of the concert given by Cesaria in Lisbon Coliseu, on 8 May 2010. There is a story about this concert... The day before, Cesaria was giving a concert in Barcelona – she complained of chest pain in the afternoon, and went to Barcelona main hospital for medical examination, but doctor said she was OK and was able to give her concert. The period was a mess in Europe: because of eruption of volcano Eyjafjallajökull most flights were cancelled. We received the information from Spanish authorities that she will have to travel in a bus the day after from Barcelona to Lisbon, but finally the flight was authorized. She arrived in Lisbon in great shape. The concert was a stunning success, Bonga went on stage to sing ‘Sodade’, and there was a big after concert party with many cape-verdian friends… On the next Monday, Cesaria arrived in Paris were a car was waiting to take her to the Salpetriere hospital for thorough examinations. The diagnosis was clear: she had to be operated in extreme emergency. Open-heart surgery was scheduled the same night. It was the beginning of her health problems, which led to her demise in 2011.
