Storm Ciaran: Italy declares state of emergency as floods in Tuscany intensify, death toll rises

After hitting the French-Atlantic coast on Wednesday, Storm Ciaran continued its path of destruction throughout western Europe on Thursday, killing at least seven people and causing floods across France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Italy’s Tuscany region was hit particularly hard by the storm after being ravaged by floods which resulted in the death of at least five. Italian government officials declared a state of emergency on Friday as firefighters rescue teams continue their search in the central region for displaced residents and tourists. In response to the devastation brought forth by Storm Ciaran, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has pledged five million euros of aid to Tuscany.
