Pillars of creation by Don Heffernan

My best experiences have been with Craig Stocks at the Utah Desert Remote Observatories. My first target was, of course, Andromeda in broadband RGB, but my second was the the Eagle Nebula in narrowband SHO. Craig cautioned me that the pillars would be quite small even in the Planewave. Nevertheless, I wanted to try it since NASA’s iconic image is what first sparked my curiosity about DSO’s. And to cap it off, the NASA Administrator at the time was a family friend and sent me a poster of the image. Well, Craig’s data was better than my skills but even in my first attempt at narrowband processing, the pillars were plain to see. This morning I decided to reprocess the data and see what I could dig out. I’m jumping the gun since this is still an early work in progress but when my first GHS stretch delivered pillars that were not blown out too much, I knew I had to post a zoomed in view. Still light years to go to come close to Craig’s work.“ Music by Andrey Klimkovsky @AndreyKlimkovsky Track: «Pillars of creation» Bandcamp: NEANE Records: Video edition by @pictuREflection #PillarsOfCreation #Nebula #EagleNebula #M16 #cosmos #astronomy #astrophotography #DonHeffernan #AndreyKlimkovsky #music #Ambient #NGC
