Large Coronal Hole in the Sun’s Atmosphere Facing Earth - Geomagnetic Storm Watch

High-speed plasma flowing from a large southern hole in the sun’s atmosphere is buffeting Earth’s magnetic field today. Right now, the solar wind is flowing more than 500 km/s and it could spark minor G1-class geomagnetic storms. According to NOAA, the odds of storms are greatest on June 16th as Earth moves deeper into the gaseous stream. Isolated periods of G1 (Minor) storming are also likely on June 17th.
