Queensland remains on high bushfire alert

Many parts of Queensland remain on high bushfire alert as 70 wildfires continue to burn across the state. “The fires of the Western Downs Region about 350 kilometres west of Brisbane, continue to pose the most severe threat to property,” Brisbane Bureau Chief Adam Walters told Sky News Australia. “So far in this blaze, which began earlier this month, 39 homes have been lost and the number of dwellings including sheds and caravans is totalling 85.” Areas in central Queensland, including Colosseum, Miriam Vale and Carnarvon Gorge, have been issued Watch and Act warnings as temperatures reach into the high 30s. A spokesman for the rural fire service in Queensland said conditions are a result of extreme wind and rising temperatures.
