Nitro Funny Cars Collide in Rare Two-Car NHRA Wreck

In a sport dependent on traveling in a straight line, it is extremely rare to see a two car incident in drag racing. That was not the case at the Texas Motorplex when Dale Creasy Jr and Dave Richards’ NHRA Nitro Funny Cars came together. Both drivers walked away from the incident. Inside a Funny Car, each driver is protected by a roll cage, and there is also a titanium shroud over the steering wheel and pedals, and another shroud around the back of the rollcage to protect drivers from debris. Inside the rollcage they have a custom fitted seat to stop the driver from moving around too much in the event of a crash or wreck. The giant rear tires can also act as a kind of bumper to absorb much of the force in such an incident.
