Multiple people have quoted Abraham Lincoln that McClellan had the “slows.” McClellan’s Peninsula Campaign ended in the Army of the Potomac retreating back down the peninsula to the transports and after Antietam, McClellan allowed Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia to escape back into Virginia without chasing after him. It’s the latter that I want to focus on today. Was McClellan being unreasonable? He did not have a good relationship with the president, so was he exaggerating his circumstances to make Lincoln look bad in the public eye? The most recent scholarship has revisited McClellan’s actions as commander of the Army of the Potomac and debate whether McClellan was timid or smart. #CivilWar #Antietam #GeorgeBMcClellan #History #HaveHistoryWillTravel #HistoryChannel #Historynerd #Historygeek #HistoryCritique #historymemes #historyofart #historyinthemaking #historybuff #historylover #historylesson #historyfacts #historyinpictures #historymaker #historylovers #historyteacher #historymakers #historymeme #historytour #historymade #historytv18 #historymuseum
