Acid (Oesterreich) - Acid (1974) Rock, Progressive Rock Acid is an Austrian rock band from Vienna. It was founded in 1971 by Robert Ponger, Rudi Staeger and Herbert Novacek. The band gained great popularity in Austria after winning the television talent competition Show-Chance in 1972. After releasing three studio albums, Acid disbanded around 1980. In 1974 the debut album Acid was released on the CBS music label. The first successful titles with airplay on the ORF radio station Ö3 were Six To Seven and Hipguard. Afterwards, the band members changed several times: Robert Ponger left and was replaced by Robert Zidek, and another guitarist, Peter Koller, joined the group. The second album More Acid was released in 1975 with the hit single Hey Freddy (number 9 in the Austrian charts). The last album Acid Age was released on Polydor and was recorded in the Schmettersound studio in Vienna from March to April 1978. The band broke up around 1980. In 2014, Acid reunited with Herbert Novacek (vocals, bass), Rudi Staeger (drums) and Wolfgang Staribacher (percussion, keyboard, trombone). A limited vinyl reissue of 500 copies of the debut album Acid was presented on October 24, 2014 at a concert at the Purkersdorf stage.
