The flora and fauna of each ecosystem have adapted to live according to the characteristics and resources of their surroundings. Ecosystems consist of a biotope and a biocenosis. We distinguish between two types of ecosystems: natural ecosystems and artificial ecosystems. We can classify natural ecosystems in two major types: terrestrial ecosystems (deserts, jungles, woodlands, tundras, taigas, prairies and savannas) and marine ecosystems (rivers, lakes, seas and oceans).
