This newsreel is a Société Nouvelle Pathé-Cinéma production, showing the 1957 International 24 Hours of Le Mans. The race was the 25th Grand Prix at the ‘Circuit de la Sarthe’ 9-mile circuit. The film is a report by Henri Champetier and Carlos Vilardebo, with photography by Jacques Fogel and Georges Remoué, sound by Jean-Claude Marchetti and Jacques Decerf, technical advisory by Claude Rolland, and assistant directory Jacques Cristobal.
Crowds gathered around the ‘Circuit de la Sarthe’ racecourse (00:11). The racecars are prepared by crewmembers, mechanics, and the race drivers (00:22). Drivers put on helmets and gloves (00:53). A DKW Monza Coupé with a DKW 994cc S3 (2 stroke) engine (15:03). Altering shots between spectators eating and racecars driving on the circuit (15:06). A Monopole X88 Coupé with a Panhard 745cc F2 engine arrives at the pit (15:26). Leading Jaguar-teammate Bueb take over for teammate Flockhart in the pit (15:46) and technicians and mechanics care for the car (15:58). Bueb exits the pit and continues racing (16:18). Ron Flockhart passes the finish line as the winner of the 24-hour race (16:56) and is celebrated in the pit, with champagne, and the audience (17:00).
