Lily-Rose Depp Would Be ‘Overjoyed’ If Britney Spears Watched ‘The Idol’

Lily-Rose Depp is giving behind-the-scenes insight into her pop star transformation for “The Idol.” The 23-year-old actress plays a singer named Jocelyn in the new HBO drama, and while talking to Access Hollywood Guest Correspondent Jacqueline Coley at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, she revealed she went on a rigorous pop star boot camp. Although the show is not based on any particular pop star, some have noticed similarities between Jocelyn and Britney Spears. “I’m obviously a huge fan of Britney’s, I mean who isn’t. I think she’s incredible and I have so much respect and admiration for her, so of course I would be overjoyed if she watched the show,” Lily-Rose told Access. “But I also think it’s important to say, like you said, that we’re certainly not trying to tell her story or anybody else’s story for that matter.” The HBO show also has several steamy sex scenes, and Lily-Rose told Access that she felt comfortable on set. “I was really blessed to be surrounded by people all the time that I felt incredibly respected by, that were listening to me, that valued my opinions, that wanted my input,” she said. “The Idol’s” five-episode season debuts on HBO Sunday, June 4 at 9pm and continues with new episodes weekly.
