The symphonic poem “Fairy Tale“, as translated from the Russian word “Skaska“, was composed by N. Rimsky-Korsakov while he worked on his opera “Snow Maiden“. It was initially based on a painting of Baba-Yaga but was later changed to the title and form it has today. The piece contains the usual colorful orchestration and programmatic tones that are to be expected when listening to any of Rimsky-Korsakov’s mystical works.
