La Vuelta 2021 Stage 20 Highlights | Final Road Stage For GC Challengers

It may seem surprising that this Vuelta stage does not include the big mountains in its previous penultimate stages which may make it seem easier for the riders, however this is far from the truth, including 3,000 meters of climbing just for good measure. Possessing five cat climbs that on their own seem simple enough, the recovery time in between them is short meaning riders will have to work hard to manage their energy reserves and tackle the climbs systematically. A steeper final climb concludes with a summit finish, with riders climbing for at an average of 5.3%. Designed by Oscar Pereiro (2006 Tour de France Winner), he described the stage as leg-breaking, and with the successive climbs at the end, it surely does seem that way.
