Chinese hypersonic weapons test ‘has all of our attention’, US General Mark Milley says

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, General Milley added that the test flight “has all of our attention”. China reportedly conducted two hypersonic weapons tests over the summer of 2021. The CEO of defence contractor Raytheon, Gregory Hayes said the US is years behind China in its pursuit of hypersonic weapons. China’s foreign ministry has denied weapons tests were conducted and urged the US to respect others’ right to build normal defence capacity. Hypersonic weapons are difficult to defend against as they fly at lower altitudes than ballistic missiles, but can travel more than five times the speed of sound.
